If you know anything about those three words, then you know how I feel about this next word. Kids! The youth of today are going up different from when I grew up, and I’m only 22. It’s sad in a way. They eat, communication, and live differently than I did.
I have been on a journey for almost a year now. Growing up as an overweight kid was hard. It was hard to find cute clothes. I had to wear old woman dresses rather than something cute like my friends were wear. You got talking about your size. You tend to make jokes about your weight before anyone else does.
Now that I am older, I wish that my parents would have told me I was fat, rather than telling me that I was healthy. Those two words have two different meanings. There are ways to keep active and enjoy a FEW of your favorite things.
According to ACT for youth research, in 2003, there were almost 9, 000,000 kids ages 6-19 who were overweight. I was in this number, and now it is my goal to bring as many kids as I can out of this number with me.
GamerFitNation Jr. is about to take this to the next level. We want our kids moving and active. We want to show them that we can eat fast food, but to watch the calories and the portions. Portion control is a major issue for many adults as well as kids.
We tend to sit in front of the TV wit ha bad of chips and eat until we are full. By the time we are full, we have had four servings of chips. So lets say each serving of chips has 300 calories and 8 grams of fat. We have just consumed 1200 calories and 32 grams of fat. The average person should consume 1200 calories in a day, and we have just ate a snack while we watch TV. It’s the little things that matter. We may drink a can of Sprite, which is 140 calories, while we eat our chips. So our calories are still adding up.
We can enjoy eating a FEW of the things we love, but it had to be in moderation. I love Ice cream, but I haven’t had it in a while, because I feel in love with frozen yogurt. So now it crave it more than, ice cream.
I’m excited to see what kind of Impact GFN Jr. can do. So grab your kids, nieces/nephews, or neighbors kids and get moving as we her at GFN move along.
