Here are 6 tips that will help you to become a Better G.A.M.E.R.
Games- The obvious reasons, Games are what one needs to become a better Gamer. One thing the gaming world provides is a large assorted variety of Games making it very easy to obtain one. The issue is finding one that fits you, and your gaming needs. I remember a time when any game you could get your hands on would do, but in this day and age we as Gamers are all about preference. So, when choosing a game keep your personal preference in mine but don’t limit yourself to them. When choosing a game, popular titles are made obvious by the marketing and promotion behind them which can make your chooses easier, but limit your enjoyment. For example there are a lot of low key games that are as good, if not better then the main stream titles, but lack the marketing to compete with them. Old and new titles such as Psychonauts and Blur are games that people have over looked, but these games are actually very good. There are many independent titles that go unseen do to lack of funding towards marketing. The point is that when choosing a game look at it more closely than referring to the advertising look for the general sense presented by the gaming community.
Almonds and other nuts- Snack time is a good time for a Gamer in the game, but choosing the right snack is key. Almonds and Other nuts contain Protein, monounsaturated fats, vitamin E, and fiber. This helps fights against obesity, heart disease, muscle loss, cancer, and High blood pressure according to the AbsDiets. If you feel like nuts present too much of a plain taste to you, try adding Dried fruit to the mix. If you’re not a fan of raisins try Dried cherries, pineapples or bananas. My personal favorite is dried apricots. While gaming keep a bowl of Almonds or other nuts in reach instead of Cheetos and Mountain dew. At first it might seem a little off balance for you, but in the long run you’ll be healthier for it.
Meal Management- You would think eating would not be an issue but it’s the biggest among Gamers. Many Gamers tend to lose time while gaming, finding what was to be an hour battle on Halo turned into a 6 hour armageddon. What this promotes is over eating or under eating leading to obesity, abnormally slow heart rate, and high/low blood pressure. The Department of Health and Human Services, HHS, suggests most adult women and men consume at least 1,000 and 1,200 calories-a-day, respectively. They also suggest a recommended 1800 for women and 2500 for men daily. This means that you should not have less than 1000 calories a day if you do under eat and no more than 2500 calories a day. How to fix this? Make it a goal to time when you eat. If you going to game for a long period of time, set up a reminder in your phone or use whatever time tracking device to make sure you eat at proper times. What also helps is to create healthy and tasty pre-made meals that way all you have to do is pop it in the microwave and eat between online matches. Try not to eat during a match because this also can promote you to overeat as well. So try to manage you meals and choose food that will keep you going.
Earning income- Look the Song says “Money, Money, Money!” As we all know money makes the world go round, and in the gaming world that is doubled. Though the same case could be made for the past, today gaming has become more and more expensive. The gaming industry promotes big money, requiring even more money to become innovative for the rapidly changing and growing market. So what does this mean to you? A game that technically should only cost you $40.00 is now worth $59.99 plus tax, not to mention DLC costing between $5.00 and $20.00. Over all without knowing it you could spend close to a $100.00 dollars for one game. Now image adding accessories, peripherals, sound and image enhancing equipment into the mix, you spend money into the thousands without realizing it. So what are you going to do about it? Earn more… it’s time to brush off those trades and degrees you earn in college, and get a well paying job. The trends suggest that gaming will become more expensive in the coming years. You do not want to miss out on Uncharted 4 for PlayStation 4 now do you?
Recreation outside of gaming- Take your butt outside and enjoy life! You can’t defeat the Gamer stereotype if you live your life as a hermit crab. Living in the gaming world without a back door is like digging a hole that will one day become a self made grave filled with lost time and bad habits. Put it like this, I’ve visited Gaming friends in other states who didn’t realize they had fun places like bowling alleys and water parks right down the street. So try hanging with your real friends, go out on dates, join a gym, go to a movie, or visit gaming functions such as PAX Events. I promise you that 9 times out of 10 your video games will be home waiting for you.
Skillz- Last and most importantly is Skillz, not with a “S” but with a “Z”. I’ve ran into a lot of people with no gaming skillz, for example when I 1st played Uncharted 2 in beta I had a hard time getting the game down, but I never gave up. When the full game came out I became ranked number 1 in the world for kills. This is because I trained myself by playing the game strictly in Death Matches. Pretty soon you get tired of losing and eventually get better. Look let’s be frank if you don’t play you can’t get better, so play more and get you game up. Because if I see you online when Uncharted 3 comes out, I’m coming at you hard!
Ttry these tips or adjust them to suite you. In the end the goal should be to become a Better Gamer….
