Doom - first fully 3D FPS
Goldeneye - first breakthrough console FPS
HALO - first online multiplayer console FPS
Call of Duty - first FPS that created a yearly franchise

Perfect Dark? Crysis? No. Add Half-Life(first story-driven cinematic FPS), Quake III(first multiplayer-only), Counter-Strike(first popular team/objective-based).

I agree with Counter Strike, but how can anyone even try to debate that Halo didn't change things? Almost every console game (and Xbox Live for that matter) basically copied the Halo 2 matchmaking formula, control scheme, the regenerating health, 2 weapon limit, and instant melee/grenades that you can use with the touch of a button instead having to switch to them. I know it's a console game and people will shit on it for that, but it definitely helped popularize the genre on consoles and changed many things for the better. My list would be

Doom
Goldeneye 007
Half-life
Unreal Tournament
Counter-Strike
Halo 2
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

Halo CE's biggest contribution was the control scheme, regenerating shields and LAN play, but it was Halo 2 that really blew up online. The quake games were important too (specially Quake 3 Arena) but I think Unreal Tournament was more important and a better game.

There is only ONE REASON why Halo could ever be considered for this list.

It popularized internet multiplayer.

That is it! There is nothing in Halo that hasn't been done by another game prior to Halo release. If it was released on Macintosh as originally planned, nobody would have give a god damn. However, because it was released on XBox instead as a launch title, and might I add, the only decent game for the XBox at the time, that it received any attention at all! To not acknowledge this fact means you're either blind, or never played any other game.
