This weekend Sega hosted the Sonic Generations of Skate exhibition and showed off their latest Sonic game “Sonic Generations” in celebration of Sonic the Hedgehog’s 20th Anniversary. There were 12 pro skaters split into 4 teams-each team consisted of a skater from the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation. The skaters would then compete in solo runs, highest air, best trick, and team doubles. This free event brought out tons of people and let them experience a show, health, and gaming.

The Health
To add to the fun, there was also a free skate clinic with professional skaters on a 4,500 sq ft street course. Anyone could tell the kids were having tons of fun-all while learning and improving their skating skills.

The Gaming

People at the gaming booth were  having fun playing Sonic Generations, once people started playing-both young and old-you could tell they didn’t want to let go of the controller.  I got to try the game and as a fan of the older Sonic games I could easily say this game is fun and great for anyone, regardless of their generation!

The Hawk

Being there I got the chance to ask skateboard legend Tony Hawk what he thought of gaming and health sharing the same culture. His response “It’s a big part of our culture and I’m proud to have more people recognize that.” I personally couldn’t agree more, gaming and health have become a big part of our culture. It’s great to see more people taking interest in their health while being gamers, that’s definitely something to be proud of!
Overall it was a fun family event where gaming and health came together, this even was a perfect demonstration of how both cultures can work with each other. Sonic Generations will be out for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 on November 1st, for PC on November 4th, and on December 31st for the Nintendo 3DS. Oh and SPOILER ALERT... Tony Hawk’s team won!!
