Gears 3 Not nominated for VGA’s Game of The Year

After checking out Spike Video game awards nominees on Spike.com I was surprised to see that Gears of War 3 wasn’t nominated for Game of the Year. Why? because despite my personal feeling about Arkham City and Uncharted 3 being the top 2 contenders for VGA’s Game of the Year award. I felt that Gears 3 deserved to be in the top 5 if not 3. If you’re fanboy of a particular platform or not, you have to admit that Gears 3 delivered a pretty solid and in depth gaming experience . With it’s great story, graphic’s, and action Gears to me deserves to be a contender but it’s not up to me in the end.

Cliffy B believe’s that Gears should be considered “Game of the century” a statement he made during our interview at the Best Buy Gears launch event. It is my belief that Games such as Gears of War 3, Batman Arkham City, Uncharted 3, Skyrim, and Zelda Skyward Sword have already achieved this feat. Studios such as Naughty Dog, Epic Games, and Rockstedy have proven that there are no limits in the ways of Gaming innovation, and have changed the way we see video games because of it.

Though it wasn’t nominated I feel that Gears 3 is and deserves to be a contender for Game of the Year. Still I would like to hear your thoughts on if you agree or not.

Good point, I didn’t enjoy Gears of war 2. But Gears of war 3, it was quite the experience. Can’t decide which was superior, Uncharted 3 or Gears of war 3.

  Uncharted 3 also ****ingly carbon copied Uncharted 2 in its core gameplay. PLUS. Plus!………… Uncharted series blindly copied the revolution of mainstreaming the cover n shoot mechanics as done by the gears series.

  Uncharted 3 innovated even less. Plus what Gears of War 3 offers that Uncharted 3doesn’t very well is good replay value. The multiplayer is among the best of this generation. Plus I finished Uncharted 3 already, played some of the multiplayer and I can’t say the game is as epic as I hoped it would be considering all the hype the reviews are giving. I would have given the game an 8.5 tops! While Gears I can play multiplayer everyday and not feel bored at all because of all the different options. Plus the 4 player campaign option is awesome and doesn’t feel tacked on like the co-op in Uncharted 3.
  In the end it all smells like Sony is bribing the reviewers somehow, because I certainly can’t see the perfection of Uncharted 3 anywhere in the game.

Gears 3 was good, I enjoyed it, not surprised it wasn’t nominated. I really thought Dark Souls was deserving.

Well a AAA game sold over 3 million copies because no one like it, averaged mainly over a 9/10, it’s sequels were goty contenders and goty, and is on the top 5 xbox 360 games played on Live right now…that’s why it should not be a goty contender…oh wait.

I am a hardcore Gears fan but honestly not suprised that gears 3 didn’t make the cut the game makes some improvements from gears 2 mainly in the multiplayer( no more shotty fest) but the story was okay to much of the same go get fuel go get parts needed it got boring the second time around.the game is great but I would take spike tv seriously I mean does anybody even watch the vga?

  I think I agree… I’ve only played about 2 hrs of it b/c I’m still playing through The Witcher. But with the exception of Oblivion, The Witcher is my favorite rpg of the gen so far.

I don’t really find it that surprising. There were many better games this year… not to mention Uncharted has been better for the last two entries. Skyrim, Batman, and Uncharted were the most obvious choices to me too.

In Gears 3 you have a great game that has almost endless replay value, brilliant 4 player coop, and multiplayer, and part of a series that has been copied by many of todays great games.

In Uncharted 3 you have a great game with borderline over use of QTE, a game mechanic that plays you instead of you playing it, and for the most part ZERO replay value, with an OK multiplayer.

The reason U3 is nominated and G3 is not is because the gaming industry is biased in favor of PS3, because Ps3 gamers are more passionate. PS3 gamers cry the loudest and whine the most, and most importantly they protest sites and anything related to gaming that does not worship at the feet of the Sony throne. This costs gaming sites and organizations money.

Xbox is the safe diss, if your going to bad mouth a game, under rate a series, or snub a title for goty nomination, it is safe to do it to the 360 exclusive. No one cries, no one cares, everyone appears happy.

This reality makes the gaming industry a joke for the most part, the media, many developers and these phony awards, are all corrupt. As a result these awards remain meaningless to most of the entertainment industry and the very customers the gaming industry caters to.

    They deserve failure because the owned last generation, and what did they choose to give back toe the industry and their customers in return? An overpriced console designed more for blueray playing than gaming, that caused developers millions in man hours and grief, only to give them low sales due to an elusive install base. PS3 fans got bad ports, delays, and finally the YLOD for their 600 dollars and loyalty.

        Bluray on the next gen consoles? I dont think so. Sony will stick their Bluray s*** up their a**holes, as it is already known as “media failure”. By the way, Sony always have this kind of crappy ideas, just like what they did on the PS3 a.k.a “Bluray Paperweight Monolith”, even coming AFTER the Wii and the x360, had NOTHING MORE (except the shitty bluray) than the other two consoles… and when you think that they can’t copy anything else, they bring the PS Move crap (LOL, DICK WII? WTF??). Luckily, Uncharted will fail for sure, because Skyrim and Batman will share the GOTY award.

We can see this by the lack of gaming media doing stories on the poor state of Microsoft’s first party, their shift to the casual market, or even their continued charging for online play when the games are all on peer to peer networks. At least Gears 3 is not.
  
  Sony has put out amazing games all generation long, whereas MS has stuck with a few titles and taken little chance.

ermmm… why would you feel that GoW3 should be a contender to the prize of GOTY if you nowhere state that it deserves to be a winner? In my opinion, a list of GOTY-nominees should be games that I consider are able to win and even though GoW3 is a great game it is surpassed by other games even without all games being released yet..

The Gears of war franchise is one of the best shooter experiences ever delivered! It sometimes just comes down to taste, and preferred gaming styles I think. A lot of hatters out there too!
