Do you have a crying baby?? I do!! My 3 month old has begun to teeth and just today figured out how to pull herself forward in her swing to chew on the swing!! Needless to say, today was full of wailing baby and although it was frustrating when I was unaware of the reason, once I saw her gnawing on hard stuff I reached for my trusty sidekick Lobelia.
I was introduced to Lobelia when my oldest daughter began to teeth and I was hooked. This wonderful extract in an alcohol base worked wonders for the pain associated with her teething. The alcohol base allows extremely quick absorption anywhere it is applied. I say anywhere, because it can go nearly anywhere. Of course, you will want to avoid eye contact and all sensitive areas as the alcohol base will sting.
This herb is so great, it is considered a cure-all! When in doubt for what to use, use Lobelia. It works topically for muscle cramps, charlie horses, tightness, stomach cramps, and general pain. Simply squirt it on and rub it in. It works internally for asthma (it is a bronchodilator), hiatus hernia (where you have ridiculous acid reflux and a sensation of a lump in the throat), induction of sleep and general all-over-body relaxation. Rub a few drops on sore gums and watch your baby nearly instantly stop crying. I had a client (5 months old) get giddy and giggle when the teething pain subsided! In addition to all of these uses, it is also used as a quit-smoking aid. Give a little squirt under the tongue (which burns, but hey – no pain no gain right?) and the active ingredients bind to receptors that are ready for nicotine, reportedly assisting to dwindle those cravings.
The reason I mention this herbal extract is because it is essential to parenthood!! I have no idea where I would be without it really. When I am ooing and awing over my new baby while feeding, I can slather it on my neck muscles to ease the muscle pain associated with forever looking down. When my little one is suffering from tummy pain, I gently rub it in clockwise circles, and gently give a few double-finger-dance circles in the same direction. The first thing I notice is a very calm baby, followed shortly after by a relieved and smelly baby
You know how kids can get restless at bedtime and refuse to settle? 3-10 drops of this wonderful liquid can calm them down enough so they can relax and drift off. However, if they are not ready to sleep, or if they are REALLY stubborn, they simply will not fall asleep. It is kind of fool proof that way. This herb is part of the Parent Pack I sell on my website. Check out Nature’s Sunshine of Canada or Nature’s Sunshine USA for more detailed information regarding Lobelia.
