With the return of the NBA season-and fantasy basketball leagues- I thought it would be fun to build my own fantasy basketball team based off Nintendo characters. My starting lineup would be Pikachu (Point Guard), Yoshi (Shooting Guard), Samus (Small Forward), Waluigi (Power Forward), and Donkey Kong (Center). Here’s why I think these characters would be great at the positions I assigned them.
PG-Pikachu

I can see Pikachu being good at PG because of quick attack which could lead to an awesome fast break. I can also see Pikachu as a great playmaker after seeing how well he passed the Pokeball to Ash in the first Pokemon episode.
SG-Yoshi

Based on Yoshi’s Island (originally for the SNES) Yoshi is great at aiming and shooting-at least with eggs- if Yoshi can do that with an egg then Yoshi can do that with a ball. Yoshi can also get insane air like Michael Jordan used to-just thought that would qualify him a bit more.
SF-Samus

Because of Samus’ quickness and physique I think she would make a great SF. Aside from that Samus is great at shooting from long distance-which I always took advantage of in Smash Bros., making her a great candidate for a 3 point shooter.
PF-Waluigi

To be fair there’s not much to talk about Waluigi, so why would I put him as my PF? His physical characteristics fit those of the typical Power Forward, he’s tall and lean. His long arms would make for a sick hook shot!
C-Donkey Kong

Donkey Kong would be the big guy at center because Donkey Kong is all about power. The center is usually the most physically strong player, the muscle, and that’s exactly where DK falls into category in just about every game.
That’s my idea of a great basketball team using Nintendo characters. Let me know what you think, what would you change? Who would make great substitutes, or maybe coach?
