Was Final Fantasy XIII-2 What You Expected?

Final Fantasy XIII-2 (not versus) has just been released. Yes, if I sound a little bitter it’s because I’ve been waiting for very long time for the latter to be released. My wish hasn’t come true and we have been subjected to playing a sequel to Final Fantasy XIII. This game was just released yesterday and I know many of you have gotten a chance to play several hours of the game. Now that you have played the title, what do you all think? First, please allow me to give you my own thoughts and then feel free to post your thoughts at the end!

Final Fantasy XIII-2 is a title that I love to hate and hate to love. Honestly, I really want to love this title but there just something keeping me from loving it. It’s not the fact that I have played several other Final Fantasy titles and loved most of the characters including Tidus, who is actually one of my favorite characters. (Yes, I openly admit that) Final Fantasy XIII had a few things that several people hated such as the game being very linear and lacking exploration that the series is known for. One thing that really irked me about this title was if your main character dies you have to retry the battle. That truly annoyed me. What’s the point of having a bunch of party members if the main one you control dies and you have to restart the battle over?

There are some gameplay improvements that XIII-2 does very well. The linearity of the game that was present in the previous game is basically gone. Although, there are several areas where it might be reminiscent of the previous title, it isn’t as much as to where you’re going to disconnect with the game and story. I really like how they did time traveling and included the incorporation of quick time events which allow you to instantly stagger your opponent. The game is really fun and brings back the old FF feel to it. Now that you are able to add monsters to your team, it really brings in a new refreshing sense to the game. Personally, I love the crystarium system because I’m the type of person that loves to max out my stats and skills.  In conclusion my opinion of the title is that I want to love it, but there is just something there that keeps me at the “like” stage.

Now that you’ve read my thoughts on the game it’s all about you guys our readers. After a day of playing Final Fantasy XIII-2, was this title what you expected or did it fall short of your expectations? If it was or wasn’t what you expected tell us how you would have improved this title even more.

Just curious as to why you want to hide what you said unless your sole purpose was to troll by which you ultimately failed in achieving.
