Five RPG HD Collections that have not Happened Yet

Legend of Dragoon

When I was going up in High School an old friend of mine invited me over to play a game on the PS one called Legend of Dragoon. Now, I have always been a fan of great JRPG’s and when I witnessed this title, it was something special.  This is one of those RPG’s that you either played during the time it released and enjoyed it, or missed the experience and are now regretting it. Whatever the case may be there is one thing that I can tell you about legend of dragoon based off my memory. The combat and story was on point with some of the best JRPG’s to date. It had some really great moments and a unique style of combat. I would love to see a remake.

Grandia HD collection

Grandia 2 was a title that I had the pleasure of playing when it was on the Dreamcast. Although the Dreamcast did not have many well-known or great RPGS, this was a title that I was really in love with mainly because of the traditional style of combat that was in the game. The characters were great and the story a pleasure to play; it is a game for all RPG gamers. The franchise released over the course of three consoles, the systems being the PS2, Dreamcast and originally starting on the PlayStation 1. For those that actually got a chance to play the games they were generally well received and had a ton of fans of the franchise.

Skies of Arcadia

Another Dreamcast RPG that was great was Skies of Arcadia. Skies of Arcadia was a title that was unique unlike any other title at the time. The game features a pirate protagonist with airship battles between other ships. The game had a unique story telling approach to it and another thing that also went into it was the mere fact that most of the ships could be upgraded to my prior knowledge. This allowed you to own the skies. This HD re-master might actually happen sooner than we may think as rumor has it that there is a Skies of Arcadia collection in the works from Sega. Will we see this great RPG? Only time will tell. I am crossing my fingers for it to happen though.

Star Ocean HD Collection

Star Ocean is a title that I really enjoyed when it was released on the PlayStation 1 and 2. This franchise has also seen some success with releases on the Xbox 360 and PS3 respectfully, however it has not been able to accumulate the mass success and acclaim that it had with the first two. The staple of the star ocean series has always been the combat, and story in the titles. There is just something about a space epic JRPG that just sat well with me. All of my friends loved playing this game. Another cool purpose of this game was that it was one of the many RPG’s where you could play with another friend in battle. The game’s story was immaculate as it allowed the ability to choose a male or female character and play each story arc, which overlapped with the alternate character. I believe that was the case in Star Ocean 2.

Lunar HD Collection

Lunar Silver Star Story is a franchise that has been revered for many years since its inauguration onto the PlayStation. Actually if you try to purchase, a copy of Lunar Silver Star story on amazon for the original PS one it will net you roughly $140. This might be a steep price to pay for nostalgia or you can buy the apparent remake for the PSP for 20 bucks. However, since this article is about HD Collections why do not we take the first two titles in this great franchise and why not make them a collection in full 720p with a nice rewarding platinum for all of the trophy hunters out there. I mean the name speaks for itself; the story is immaculate in every sense of the word. It is honestly a title that I did not get the chance to play when I was growing up as a kid but would love to go back if given the chance. I really wanted to know what all the fuss was about.

When you hear about RPG’s from people that are older than you are, you tend to hear the same old names time in and time out. “Dude did you play Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 7, what about Secret of Mana? You don’t know what you are missing out on!” I feel that these five titles are also titles that can be referred to in that same manner.

Now before I go, I know you guys and girls are going to bash me for not including this last title into the list. Frankly, all of us RPG gamers know the one title/series that many people think that should be either remade completely or made into a HD collection and that is of course the obvious choice being a Final Fantasy HD collection. I did not mention it because that would have been the obvious choice and if I wanted you to read a list that was similar to everyone else’s list than that would not have been interesting.

Are there any other RPG Collections that you would like to see release in the near future? Tell us some franchises you would love to see get the treatment.

I love these games! Dragoon was one of my faves!

I love Star Ocean 2 tremendously and was devastated when I left my ps3 at a store to have it’s harddrive updated and they let some of my psOne classic saves get deleted.

Also, Star Ocean 1 and 2 get a bit of a HD update with their PSP releases, First Departure and Second Evolution.

IMO, they should release those two, as well as Till the End of Time, in HD resolution on the PS3, and also include a port of the mobile phone remake of Blue Sphere.

I’d buy all of them if they made them.
