Reviews for Operation Raccoon City have come and gone and by now, we all know what to expect when you head over to Amazon or GameStop to pick up a copy of this years’ most exhausted franchise Resident Evil. If I sound a little annoyed it is because I cannot get over the blatant fact that Capcom seems to be pulling so much milk out of Resident Evil this year. I mean, we recently had the 3DS title a few months back, now we have Operation Raccoon City, later this June we have the PSN HD collection coming for the PSMove (actually excited for that one) and finally Resident Evil 6 later this fall. The later of the two are both titles that I will definitely consider getting.
Now, When I heard that Slant 6 the developers of Socom confrontation was working on the new Resident Evil that is when I become extremely worried. Many of you know the travesty that was Socom Confrontation when it released. The game was highly unplayable and when you did get into a match if you could stay in the room long enough you had a decent game readily available for play. Now I know that Resident Evil and Socom are two different games, but where my skepticism comes in is that if you make one really bad game, there’s always the chance at making another really bad game.
To be perfectly honest, when I first saw the game early last year I was extremely intrigued at the new direction that the game had taken. The game featured a different style of play that has not been experienced in a Resident Evil game before. The game allows you to play a four player co-operative mode and allows you to take on different sides of the Resident Evil universe. The game also has some of the classic characters that fans will know and love like Leon Kennedy, Nemesis, and Claire Redfield. The online portion in the game allows you to play as those characters that I mentioned before, excluding nemesis, as he is apparently playable in Xbox 360 version only.
In the end however, it does not matter what I think about the game. Will I probably purchase it? Maybe, it depends if I can get it somewhere cheaper down the line or if I want it at all. What does matter is for Resident Evil is what you all think of this new title. If you purchased the game and are enjoyed it a lot, let us know. If you did not bother to pick it up, also let us know.
