Single Player:

I came into Colors 3D not knowing much about the game besides seeing a few trailers and screens of the game in action. My initial reaction was that this was going to be a game where you draw some junk and post it online for people to see. As I played the game, however my thoughts were completely changed. Colors 3D allows you to create 3D portraits, hence the 3D in the name. Everything is great and well done, but before we get into the game just what is Colors 3D!?

Colors 3D is a great application which allows you to paint portraits in 3D. The game is extremely easy to get used to and pictures are allowed to be played back in real time so that you can see how you painted them. This is a 3D great game made for your Nintendo 3DS and great for people that are into games similar to draw something but on a greater scale. The game allows you to create lots of great photos and sketches, many of which look like images coming from a kaleidoscope. This is great for a person trying to perfect their skills in 3D artistry.

Colors 3D is a great application for the 3DS, there is no limit to what you and your imagination can create. If you are the type of person that gets bored creating by yourself than have no fear, colors 3D also allows you to sketch a painting with one of your friends so the both of you can create the ultimate masterpiece! It doesn’t stop there however as you can also upload your photos online and allow people to download them. There are some amazing masterpieces made by people already and you can also watch videos to see how they made them like that.

Gameplay:

Pick up your stylus and use it on your 3DS’s screen as your paintbrush to create breathtaking beauties. Everything in the game is controlled by touch with the D-pad allowing you the option to tweak certain aspects of your brush like paint size etc… The game also allows you to layer paintings which many artists out there may be very grateful to have that included in the game. This allows you to create very vivid and detailed pictures that look awe-inspiring. There really isn’t much to the gameplay here. You paint, erase, sketch, color, and layer. Detailed paintings can take up to anywhere from 30mins to a couple of hours depending on what you want to draw. It is a simple and easy as soon as you get the hang of it.

Presentation:

In a game that requires you to paint in 3D and 2D, colors must be a huge emphasis and with colors 3D this is shown in full force. The game will have you amazed at the amount of detail added into some of your fellow gamers’ photos. There is a lot you can do and with an easy interface there is no reason why you should get confused. The overall look and appeal is just down right beautiful. This is a 3DS eshop title but for the amount of quality that you are getting from it you are making out like a bandit. If you really want to see what I’m taking about, check out all of the great pictures that have been by the community on their website.

Controls:

The controls of the game are very simple to master and handle. You have the ability to change your color pallets, which allow you, access to over tons of different colors. These colors will help you make whatever your heart desires. I mentioned before that the game allows you to layer drawings, which is helpful for artists that want to make very detailed portraits. This allows you to add backgrounds or even just do a little shading where needed. That’s not all that is included however, there are also your core functions such as an undo button for removing mistakes and the ability to change the paint brush to a spray can or eraser.

You will also have a choice of what type of pictures you want to create, whether it is 3D or standard 2D. Everything is better in 3D if you’re the type of person that likes it that. The game allows the pictures to stand out and to be better designed by you the user. If you are not an artist that is okay as well, you can download pre-made images and color them in like a coloring book. I have to admit I did this one time and it was awesome! The controls are fun and easy; if you spend enough time with them you can become a modern day Picasso if you please.

Sound:

The sound is not ground breaking by any means, but it does set that cool calm environment for you to paint in. The soothing sounds allow you to get into the game and focus your efforts in constructing a true extravaganza. It is actually quite relaxing to paint with what seems to be the wind at your back. This game will not have you running to YouTube to find a specific song or even wishing you can purchase the soundtrack. What it will do is provide a great environment for you to get into your artistic side of yourself.

Cons:

  • Lack of additional features for painting

Pros:

  • Great color Scheme
  • 3D pictures look very well done
  • Ability to create paintings with friends

Final Thoughts:

Colors 3D is a colossal masterpiece, the 3D Pictures that look magnificent. Picasso and Michelangelo would not know what to do with themselves. Colors 3D is a true canvas for artists that are looking to expand their vast visual intellects. There is no end in sight with a game like this, as long as you have an awesome imagination and creative drawing skills you are good to go! A must buy for any painting enthusiasts.

Final Score:

I give Colors! 3D a nine out of 10.
