The warm weather has finally arrived in my hometown of Kenora, Ontario. It seemed like yesterday I was making the cold drive down to my local fitness club in order to try and get some miles in on the good old treadmill. I will be the first person to tell you how much I dislike “training like a hamster.” Unfortunately when the temperature in Northern Ontario hovers around -15 to -20 nearly 5 months of the year, you have to do the best with what you got. Thankfully, an early spring brought on a very mild April, and I was able to get some very good 10 mile runs outside. So without further ado, I present my unoffical 2012 Marathon Season Schedule. As you can see, my official running season starts May 6th!
Over the next 5 months I have entered or will be entering the following races in my region:
Winnipeg Police Services Half Marathon, Winnipeg, Manitoba. May 6th (13.1 miles)
Lake of the Woods Charity Road Race, Kenora Ontario. May 13th (10 km)
Manitoba Lotteries Marathon, Winnipeg, Manitoba. June 17th (26.2 miles)
Queen City Marathon, Regina, Saskatchewan. Sept 9th (26.2 miles)
Over the next few months I hope to keep all of GamerFitNation readers updated with my personnal tips, ideas and thoughts. Just as an example, I went with something different with my training this year. I tried to put more focus on strength training and speed drills. Whether it was squats or lunges, any emphasis I could put on my lower body (legs and more legs) I attempted. Some with better results than others!
I hope to keep you updated as my season unfolds!
