The Avengers Review (Spoilers)

Well like all true Geek, Nerds, and Dorks out there I went and saw The Avengers last night at midnight.  My first thought upon arrival at the theater is I should have worn a costume.  There were costumes everywhere!  Some good, and some, well, not so good!  Over all though there was a feeling of excitement and anticipation.  The line stretched out the theater and down the mall corridor two hours before the movie was to begin.  Luckily I was allowed inside without waiting in line.

When the movie began the audience erupted into cheers, clapping, and whistles.  Something I have not heard in a movie theater in a very long time.  I wont give everything away, but here are a few highlights…

Joss Whedon - I have been a fan of Joss since Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and I have to say his direction of this movie was top notch.  Did he get everything right?  Of course not, but who does?

Unexplained Plot Lines – If I were to have a complaint of this movie it would be this…there is a lot of unexplained plot lines.  For example Thor returning.  He just shows up, and the explanation given for how he returned to Earth without the gate is flimsy at best.  Also there is a great deal of talk about how The Avengers were hung up as a bad idea, but they never explain why.  There is a mysterious council, that holds a portion of power, but no explanation of who they are. And the bad guys are given no motivation whatsoever as to why they are attacking earth or even WANT to attack earth in the first place.

Humor – I am amazed at how much humor is in this movie.  The one liners, and zingers are incredible, and really help ease some tension in certain areas.

Teamwork – What I liked MOST about this movie was watching a group of individuals come together as a team.  At the beginning of the movie they are fighting more with themselves then they are working together.  For example the fight between Ironman and Thor is amazing.  But once they have a motivation and someone to Avenge (yes someone dies, its a Joss Whedon film) they come together as a team in a remarkable way!

Overall I give this move 5 out of 5 stars and highly recommend you not only watching the movie but getting into the comics as well.
