Title: Canabalt

Publisher: Beat Shapers

Developer: Semi Secret Software

Platforms: PS3, PSP, iPhone, iPod Touch

Price: $2.99

Release Date: April 3, 2012

Canabalt has to be one of the simplest games out there. The game is developed by Semi Secret Software and published by Beat Shapers and features a small character constantly running in the right direction to get away from utter destruction after his world is taken over by an alien invasion.

As you’re running, you are faced with a bunch of obstacles that you must hurdle over in order to gain momentum and last longer in the game. The only control you have in the game is when and how far you jump. There is really no objective or end to this game. The only purpose you have is to get further and further every time you play to get a higher score, tracked by meters.

Canabalt was originally a game made for the iPhone. But recently Canabalt has been listed as a Playstation Mini game on the PSN network and can be played on the PS3 and the PSP.

Pros:

  • For the limitation of pixelated graphics, Canabalt does a great job getting the main point across. The background has a good amount of depth to it and shows the alien destruction that is your currently running from.
  • Another thing I liked about this game is how incredibly easy it is to just pick up and start playing. There is no way anyone would have a problem understanding the controls.

Cons:

  • One thing that was a turn off about this game is the lack of variation. Yeah, you run through buildings and windows dodging obstacles to get as far as you can, but thats it. Once you have died a couple of times, You’re probably going to stop playing.
  • Another thing disappointing about the game is the controls. There is only one. Jump. This can get pretty boring as your score gets higher and higher throughout your run. I just wish there were actual aliens in the way of your run to at least make the game a bit more difficult.

Final Thoughts:

Canabalt is $2.99 on the Playstation Network. If you like games that don’t take much thought to play and you also like hip pixelated graphics, then you might enjoy this game. When it comes down to it, this game is not that bad for what it is. You’ll have fun playing, but only for a limited time. It will not be long before you just put the controller down and walk away.

Final Score:

I give this game a seven out of 10.
