We are all aware that June and July is the peak of summer vacations and family reunions. As we prepare and pack for our vacation or get away to grandma’s house, let’s be mindful of preparing healthy snacks and drinks for the road.
Be sure to read the labels on everything. For example, when picking out drinks for the children, watch the labels. It might say “fruit drink” and actually contain only 10% fruit juice. This means that our children are getting 90% sugar and other wasted calories just from a drink that we thought was healthy. Also watch your snack foods. Just because a snack might say it is “baked” does not mean that it is not loaded with salt, sugars and saturated fats that are hard for the body to break down.
Shopping early will also save you a few extra dollars. My family use to always stop at gas station and everyone got a drink, chip, and some candy. Unhealthy was written all over our vacations, along with wasted money on junk that would have us looking for something else to munch on. Pack plenty of water for the road and be safe.
Enjoy your family and friends this summer!
