Alex Morgan is currently a soccer player on the Seattle Sounders Women soccer team, as well as on the US Women’s National Soccer team that’s currently playing in the London 2012 Olympics. Morgan is most known for being one of the top goal scorers in both Seattle Sounders Women and the US Women’s National Soccer team. Like every other athlete, Morgan needs to be in good shape to give her maximum performance, and part of being in good shape comes from what you eat. Morgan recently came out in a video uploaded by the Team USA Youtube channel, where she mentions her favorite food, and shows people what she likes to eat before she goes to the pitch.
In her video, Morgan mentions how she loves Mexican food – particularly salsa. Salsa has many health benefits. According to Livestrong.com, freshly made tomato salsa contains large amounts of vitamin C, which help you avoid infections that include gum disease. Another common ingredient in salsa is peppers such as jalapeño, which contains vitamins A, K, and C. Vitamin A helps maintain healthy skin, great eyesight, and repair damaged cells. Vitamin K regulates blood sugar and blood clotting, and vitamin C in known for fighting off infections. That’s just the salsa; Mexican food like ceviche or fish tacos can be really healthy to eat because of all the healthy ingredients-like the ceviche and fish taco recipes by Chef Marcella Valladolid.
Before Morgan goes out to train or play, she likes to eat ham sandwiches made of ham, lettuce, onion, and tomato; preferably on wheat bread. She likes to have fruit and a small salad along with her ham sandwich. Morgan says that filling her body with this food is important because it correlates with the amount of energy her body will have when she’s playing. Morgan also mentions that she has a sensitive stomach. As a result, she has to watch out what she eats on game days because eating foods with a lot of fat could make her feel uncomfortable when she’s out on the pitch.
Like most people, Morgan loves eat at restaurants, but she mentions that part of the problem with eating at restaurants is that you don’t know what ingredients are in your food, and that by cooking meals yourself you have more knowledge as to what foods are going into your body.
At a Nike photo shoot, Morgan says in the Team USA Youtube channel, “If you put healthy snacks in front of people, they’ll eat it.” I couldn’t agree anymore. I’ve had friends come over to play video games at my home, and from my experience, people will eat healthy snacks if they’re put right in front of them. So if you don’t tend to snack on healthy foods, give it a try, once you see the food you’re going to be more likely to eat it.
