If you have ever wanted to soak up some sun during the summer, but still want to be attached to your video game, maybe you should read a book. Books relating to video games are not new in any way; recently they have just gotten better. The Halo novels are especially good if someone wants to learn more about the universe that they have been playing in for almost a decade now. Most franchises have tie-in novels, and these novels are not just telling what happened in the game, they’re also telling different stories and providing a back-story to the game.

Tie-in novels are some of the best ways to enjoy your summer without missing out on your video games. This is especially true with the Halo novels. This set of novels tells not only the story that takes place during the video games, but it gives the full back-story of the halo universe. In the novels, the origin of Master Chief is told, as well as the first encounter with The Covenant. Since Halo 4 is due out this fall, this set of books would be great for someone who wants to know about the Halo universe.

Almost all major franchises have tie-in novels. The Gears of War series has novels, as does Assassin’s Creed.  These novels just like the Halo novels provide back-story, as well as including more depth to the franchise. The one franchise that does not have a novel series is the Grand Theft Auto franchise. This is very confusing to me, because the GTA universe has some very interesting characters that could be elaborated upon very easily.

Aside from novels, a person could also try a comic book or a graphic novel that ties-in with a video game.  The Tomb Raider franchise has many graphic novels and all of them are very fun to read. Reading a comic book is almost better then reading a novel. With comic books, the author has the ability to show you what is happening rather than tell you.  

All over the country, mothers will be telling their kids to go out and play. Reading a book will rank second on a mothers list of things to do right after going outside. Therefore, if you are a kid I suggest that you go out and read a book, this way you are getting on your parents good side. Video game books could be the best thing to read if you are finished with The Hunger Games series and don’t want to search for another series.

No matter a person’s taste, they will be able to find a novel that fits their gaming preferences. If comic books are more your style, there will most definitely be several that suit your interests. Video game tie-in novels are great ways to learn the back-story of the universe that you are playing in.
