Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD is a release of a combination of levels from the first two Tony Hawk Pro Skater games. Along with making the levels look great, this game adds many features that were not in the original games. This new Tony Hawk game is very nostalgic, and it will be great for people who played the games the first time, as well as people who missed them.
When the first Tony Hawk came out, it was the first of its kind. The game allowed you to play as your favorite skater and perform moves that people only dreamed of. The switch to a more fantasy type skateboarding game lost some of its original appeal, which was pure skate boarding. This game takes us back to the previous games that had a combination of levels from the first two Pro Skater games. The levels are almost exactly the same as they were in the original. The only differences are a few minor objective tweaks and some graphical enhancements. The graphical enhancement is great, and it makes the game look crisp and clean.
The game is not simply a re-release of the first two games. Many features in this arcade game were not in the first ones, however there are also other features that were in the first games that are not in this game. The most important addition is that of a leader board. This function allows for you to battle with your friends over high scores. Robomodo, the developer, also included more options that are multiplayer. However, there was one option that was left out, that left me disappointed, and that game type is horse. Playing horse with my friends was some of the most fun I have ever had playing a video game. Aside from the multiplayer and the leader board, Robomodo also added extra objectives throughout the career mode to provide more depth for single player action.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD is all about the nostalgia. As soon as a person picks up the game, they are able to remember exactly what to do. Due to the fact the first and second Tony Hawk games were the first of their time, and two of only a handful of great games, they were played a lot. This tremendous amount of playtime simply flows back into a players fingers and the game feels as if you were picking it up after just a few days of putting it down. This amazing feeling alone makes the game worth playing.
The game does have its flaws though. First, is the lack of horse, which was the best multiplayer option. The second flaw is the level selection. This may seem like nit picking, but they left out all the competition levels. The competition levels were always challenging and a good change of pace in the original games. Without those competitions, the game feels half finished.
Final Thoughts:
The game is completely worth getting, even if its only for the nostalgia. You will feel as if you never put the game down if you played the originals. The levels look amazing with the new graphics, which make them look sharp, crisp and clean. The new features that have been added round out the mix and make the game fun for a long time. The minor flaws do not take away from the fun of the game.
Final Score:
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD gets an 8 out of 10.
