Sitting Down

Everywhere you seem to look nowadays, there’s a faster and easier way of doing something that doesn’t require movement at all. A classic example is food delivery. It involves picking up the phone, calling in to make an order and waiting for it to come to you: all from the comfort of your couch. Practicalities like this makes us lose out on everyday activities that contribute to an active physical lifestyle. More than half of Americans spend most of their day sitting down and this is a big issue. By having this sedentary lifestyle, you get very little to no physical activity. You can shorten life expectancy and increase your chances of developing heart problems, diseases like Diabetes Type 2, and even certain cancers. The incorporation of physical activity in your life is crucial for a better lifestyle that’s healthier and longer. Motivation is key for starting your exercise routine, so for beginners, it’s always important to start small and work your way up. Here are some tips that might help you start getting up and moving:

  1. When going out to eat, work or school, chances are you’re going to be sitting down for a few hours. Simple suggestions would be to park further away, ride your bike or walk to your destination.
  2. Preparing a home cooked meal can be an adventure involving everything from walking from one side to another cutting up vegetables, turning the meat on the skillet, preparing the salad, etc. It’s a task that keeps you on your feet and what better way of saving some money and staying healthy than cooking at home?
  3. As far as video games go, there are plenty of gaming options in the market, which incorporate physical activity. These are fun and you’ll benefit a lot from all the exercise you’ll be doing. Also, I don’t think anybody’s going to complain about losing weight and getting fit just by playing video games, so it’s a win-win situation.
