Eating According To The Seasons

Understanding the importance of eating foods according to the season is very important information to know. It gives you the opportunity to really enjoy foods in their prime because certain fruits and vegetables tend to be fresher, very tasty and more nutritious. It’s also cost effective because of its vast availability, and even though you can get them year round, buying these foods when they’re in season gives you the opportunity to support local farmers. Depending on your geographical location, availability of certain foods change so I’m basing this list on the climate in the U.S.

May Cherries, pineapples and apricots. Zucchini, carrots, artichokes, onions, asparagus, spring peas, mushroom, spinach, broccoli and lettuce.
June Watermelon, strawberries, cantaloupe, cherries, blueberries, peaches and apricots. Corn, carrots, arugula, onions, asparagus, beans, mushroom, spinach, broccoli, and lettuce.
July Watermelon, strawberries, cantaloupe, blueberries, peaches, apricots, kiwi, raspberries and plums. Cucumbers, carrots, onions, tomatoes, summer squash, corn, mushroom, spinach,  green beans and lettuce.
August Watermelon, strawberries, cantaloupe, blueberries, peaches, apricots, kiwi, raspberries and plums. Cucumbers, carrots, onions, corn, eggplant, tomatoes, summer squash, mushroom, spinach, green beans and lettuce.
September Grapes and pomegranates. Eggplants, carrots, onions, pumpkins, mushroom, spinach, tomatoes, spinach and lettuce.
October Cranberries, apples, pomegranates and grapes. Sweet potatoes, onions, carrots, pumpkins, winter squash, broccoli and spinach lettuce.
November Cranberries, oranges, tangerines, pears and pomegranates. Pumpkin, carrots, winter squash, onions, sweet potatoes, broccoli, lettuce, mushrooms and spinach.
December Pears, oranges, grapefruit, tangerines, papayas and pomegranates. Brussels sprouts, onions, carrots, Sweet potatoes, mushrooms, lettuce, spinach, broccoli and cauliflower.
