Gamers Is Superman too Big For Gaming?

GamerFitNation presents the Superman Game Project, in which 20 video game developers answer the question: Is it possible for a game developer to create a good Superman game? This came about when we asked Rocksteady Studios if they could do something no video game developer has been able to do yet: create a good Superman game. Tell us what you think, gamers: Is Superman too big for gaming?

The video features developers from Capcom, Rocksteady Studios, PlayStation, Naughty Dog, NetherRealm Studios, Marvel Comics, DC Comics and more.

Collectively, the developers cover most of the issues facing a Superman game. Superman’s essentially invincible, so there’s no risk to the player unless Superman’s powers are diminished, but a Superman with diminished powers isn’t really Superman. The game could instead revolve around Superman saving people as quickly as possible instead. Plus, the game will need a great engine in order to handle Superman’s controls both while flying and while on the ground. A great superman needs great writers, great controls and a great engine. Some of the developers suggested that next-gen consoles may be the medium required to make a spectacular Superman game, so gamers eager to play Superman may not have to wait long.

        It’s more than possible to make a challenging yet empowering Superman game because he has plenty of weaknesses that I surely can’t count on all 10 hands. If you’re unsure about that, check out the post I put up below this one. It breaks down any & all weaknesses that Superman has that game developers probably never thought about…..these weaknesses/vulnerabilities/limitations are what can make for the perfect Superman just like they did with Arkham Asylum & Arkham City! ;-)

        Here’s all of Superman’s threats/weaknesses/limitations that game developers need to exploit to make a challenging yet empowering superhero game like Rocksteady Studios did with Batman Arkham City: green kryptonite, red kryptonite, red Sun radiation, kryptonite bullets, magic, magical heroes or villains, magic bullets, deadly magical weapons, powerful electricity stuns & slows him down, if his body doesn’t absorb enough yellow or blue sun radiation he’ll be too weak to last in a fight, enemies that can absorb/drain him of his powers (Parasite), kryptonian villains (Zod, H’el, etc.), overpowered villains(Darkseid, Doomsday, Mongul, Zod, Metallo, Imperiex, Anti-Monitor, Brainiac, Superboy Prime, etc.), criminal masterminds (Brainiac, Lex Luthor, Vandal Savage, Maxwell Lord, Gorilla Grodd, etc.), genetically engineered metahumans or clones with Supe’s DNA (Doomsday, General Eiling, Bizarro, Superboy Prime, etc.), he can’t be in several places @ once like the Flash, he can’t see thru lead, he can’t bring just anyone back to life, he can’t save everyone, he’s not perfect, he’s invulnerable not invincible, he can’t read minds, can’t see thru time or time travel like the Flash can, the list goes on….

    Sure Superman’s invulnerable to far greater forms of harm than a human but just like every great story in the DC Universe, Superman has plenty of weaknesses, vulnerabilities, & limitations they can greatly exploit! Superman’s vulnerable to most forms of harm but he’s far from invincible! He’s a powerful alien but he’s not an invincible god that has no weaknesses what-so-ever!lol,smh…..

    Here’s basically all of Superman’s weaknesses/vulnerabilities/limitations that game developers need to know & can exploit when trying to make an empowering yet challenging Superman game(depending on the story): he’s weak against green kryptonite, red kryptonite, green kryptonite bullets, bullets made of magic, powerful magical beings (Shazam, Dr. Fate, Count Vertigo, Felix Faoust, etc.), exhausting too much of his powers, enemies draining him of his powers (Parasite, Ra’s Al Ghul, magically powerful beings, etc.), genetically engineered metahumans w/Superman’s DNA(Doomsday, General Eiling, Bizarro, etc.), dangerous overpowered kryptonian villains from the Phantom Zone (Zod, Ursa, Non, Jak-Sur, Malla, etc.), ruthlessly powerful criminal masterminds (Lex Luthor, Brainiac, Vandal Savage, Maxwell Lord, Gorilla Grodd, etc.), overpowered alien villains (Mongul, Darkseid, Imperiex, AntiMonitor, etc.), & also if he’s away from the sun for too long he’ll great weakened or beaten to death like Doomsday did to him. There you have it, those really Superman’s weaknesses that can be put in a game to give players a real challenge! ;)

    To make the perfect Superman game developers such as Rocksteady Studios, Sucker Punch Productions, TellTale Games, or even Naughty Dog are more than capable of making this a reality! If the vast majority of any of the developers just mentioned don’t have a religiously diehard respect, love, & knowledge for Superman’s mythology & everything in it that makes him who he is, then it’s impossible for developers to make a game that doesn’t have that rich Superman DNA in it like the Superman Animated Series had! :-D

    I really hope they do this well but again how do you limit the omnipotent?

    I think an almagamation of the universe, so Smallville based episodes to cover the early years and limitations to powers,which grow with exp. By going through various episodes like the early comics when Supes powers weren’t fully realised to match the mission, and culminate with the Darkseid battle/ MOS battle with Zod, when he becomes a real badass in terms of power. There could be a whole donner based level, at the fortress where he learns the full extent of his powers before the comic based eps/levels.

    Does anyone else think that would work?
