Almond milk has been used as an alternative to cow’s milk for years. Almonds are very nutritious, being packed with protein, Vitamin E, fiber and essential minerals. Almond milk is a rich and creamy milk alternative that contains no dairy, and is made by mixing finely ground almonds with water. While it may not contain as much protein as cow’s milk, it provides many health benefits that are superior to traditional cow’s milk.
Almond milk is lower in calories than cow’s milk, and contains no saturated fat. The low calorie nature of almond milk makes it a great choice for those trying to maintain a healthy weight. Almond milk also has less sugar and carbohydrates than cow’s milk. Rich in antioxidants, it helps reduce free radicals in the body. The abundance of omega-3 fatty acids in this product contributes to its heart-healthy nature.
The calcium and vitamin D in almond milk keeps your bones strong, reduces risk for arthritis, osteoporosis and improves immunity. The B vitamins, iron and riboflavin help enhance muscle strength and healing. Vitamin A in almond milk helps improve eye function and your ability to adjust to changes in light. Vitamin E has special antioxidant properties that enhance skin health and protects against sun damage. The flavonoids and monounsaturated fats help protect and nourish your skin, enhancing your natural complexion. Almond milk contains no animal products, which makes this a great vegan alternative that is easier on the stomach. People who are lactose intolerant should try to incorporate almond milk into their diet. I also personally think that it tastes better than other milk alternatives, such as soy or rice milk. Almond milk also contains more vitamins and minerals than its soy and rice milk counterparts.
You can find almond milk in a variety of flavors at the supermarket to jazz up boring cereal or shakes. Here are some ideas on how to incorporate almond milk into your diet:
-Breakfast smoothie with almond milk, fresh fruit, and ice or frozen fruit
-Use it in place of cream in stroganoff recipes
-Make cream sauces for chicken, fish or pasta
-Make pudding with almond milk to cut the calories and fat
-Use almond milk to replace milk in pancakes and muffin recipes
-Microwave a cup of chocolate-flavored almond milk for a hot cocoa alternative
-Pour yourself a bowl of your favorite cereal and flavored almond milk for a yummy snack
-Replace coffee creamer with almond milk for a healthier alternative
-Use in a protein shake
