Put down those Cheez-Its and stop eating those M&Ms. The best summer snack is here: blueberries. You can even take care of a blueberry bush for yourself! Blueberries are a great summer snack, low in calories, high in fiber and vitamin C, and filled with antioxidants, with an antioxidant count almost as high as wine.
Blueberries can be eaten a million different ways. Frozen blueberries are a quick and simple way to save and serve the juicy fruit. They are great in a fresh fruit salad. Caring for a blueberry bush is almost as easy, and is a great side project for anyone looking to have a green thumb and spend some time outside.
A blueberry bush is easy enough to buy, only costing about $10 online. As long as you have a decent soil with a pH of 4 or 5 and take good care in the first four years, the plant will live as long as twenty years, giving fresh blueberries every summer. The only animals to worry about are birds, but if you pick your blueberries as soon as they are ripe, they will be no problem.
The best part of blueberries is how easily they can be integrated into the rest of your diet. Blueberries can be used for a snack, for a healthy breakfast, or for a nutritious lunch or dinner. Throwing some blueberries in a cup of Greek yogurt is a great way to get a start on the day. Blueberries mix well with any other fruit to make a rich and filling shake in the middle of your day.
Another great thing about blueberries is that they are easy to store, are great for you in many different ways, and should be part of every healthy gamer’s summer snack regimen. Blueberries can be incorporated in any way, and are a great nighttime snack in place of pretzels or popcorn. Swapping out an unhealthier snack for blueberries is great for anyone, and for fit gamers, it’s a choice that can give you that energy boost to get through that level grind or even the crazy (and sometimes dreaded) trophy grind.
