Super Triathletes Bros. – Level 1-1

What better way to spend your summer than working out in the sunshine? It’s always sunny in the world of Super Mario, so Mario and Luigi spend their time running and swimming. Sure, they have an actual reason to run and swim, which is to rescue Princess Peach, but you can create a goal of your own as well! Your goal can essentially be anything you want it to be, but the main point is to be active and get your body moving like it’s supposed to. Take it from the Super Mario Bros., triathlons might just be your next favorite sport!

There are three main sections in a triathlon: swimming, cycling, and running. Here’s a basic overview of each:

  • Swimming – Some may consider the swimming parts of Super Mario Bros. the easiest or most fun part of the games, but in the triathlon world, swimming is sometimes considered as the most difficult. Nevertheless, practicing your swim can be tons of fun! Focus on your swimming form and acquire a proper breathing pace. Start to build your endurance wherever you go, whether it’s at the beach, at a pool, or in a lake.
    • What you’ll need: swimsuit, goggles, and a swim cap

  • Cycling – This section requires as much physical endurance as the other two, so you may very well assume that a lot of time must be spent on a bike. Cycling might feel uncomfortable for those who do not spend much time cycling or biking, but it is necessary to allow your body to adjust to the bicycle (seat, pedals, handles, brakes, etc.). The Mario brothers would have to adjust to bicycles too, since much of their experience of riding anything happens on motorcycles in Mario Kart. Regardless, Mario and Luigi compete for first place with high levels of dedication and perseverance, and so should you!
    • What you’ll need: any bicycle (road, mountain, hybrid, triathlon), helmet, cycling shorts

  • Running – Have you ever tried speed running in the Super Mario levels? Well, you are completely capable of doing the same in your world. The running portion is about pacing yourself, focusing on your breathing, and improving your running form. The best thing about running is that it is inexpensive! No need for a bicycle or a body of water to practice, which makes running the most convenient of all workouts. Sorry, but there is no excuse here! The running portion is the very last obstacle traithletes need to go through to reach the finish line. As you run, remember to keep your head high and have your goal in mind at all times, the same way Mario and Luigi never lose sight of Princess Peach.
    • What you’ll need: running shoes

Doing three sports in one is a whole lot more interesting than just one alone. How boring would Super Mario games be if Mario and Luigi only ran? Try a tri!
