Survival games with horror-like and/or intense emotions charged by the atmosphere are common in todays gaming industry. Due to that, having a solo protagonist struggling against all odds to keep alive on their own is a story line that needs to bring something fresh to the table in order to stay afloat. 505’s upcoming title, ADR1FT, is setting out to land among the stars of survival video game titles.
ADR1FT places you in control of an astronaut. You awaken to find your shuttle destroyed, crew members dead, and your EVA suit barley functioning. Through first person eyes, you have no idea what caused the calamity nor if you will be able to both survive and repair the emergency vessel that can take you back home. Floating through space, alone, gives you plenty of time to think on the experience of the tragedy you living.
Developers hope that ADR1FT will be a title that can cause players to think about the consequences of their actions not only in the realm of the game, but in their own personal lives as well. Setting each player in directly behind the eyes of our possibly silent protagonist is a very immersive way to go about trying to accomplish such a feat. Most vocal audio comes in the form of recordings and the ever present breathing of the astronaut.
We cannot help but wonder if the disaster will end up being the fault of the lone astronaut all along. But everyone can find out when the game is released for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One during the beginning of next year.
